It was a bright and sunny Spring day at Hope's Peak Academy. The sun was bright in the sky but a cool breeze kept it's heat from being too strong. Flowers were in bloom all around a small dotted with trees, and underneath one of those trees lay Yuukyoku Souzousha. all around her were books and notebooks, heavy enough that they wouldn't be carried away by the cool breeze, as she balanced a pencil on her upper lip, deep in thought.
While to random passersby it would look like she is studying, it was not rare for her to be out and about in such a position, deep in thought, regardless of if she was doing school work. Thus was the fate of someone whose Talent centered around Creativity. The Super High School Level Game Designer was in constant need to perform the primary task her Talent required: Solving Problems. And that was why she was here today, trying to solve one of her toughest ones yet.

[attr="class","stotal"] [attr="class","sbox"] Haruka walked into the courtyard, pride in her step and a not-too-wide smile on her face. She was looking forward to the meeting of the Student Council after school - one that she would be presiding over, of course. She was about to set her plan into motion to see if the gaming club really needed the funding the academy was giving, or if it was really that helpful of a club to have in the first place. All the club did was play video games that either promoted violence, had sexually explicit themes and characters, or were just too simple and didn't promote higher-level thinking.
Speaking of video games...one of the members of the ill-fated club was doing something that perfectly illustrated the bad morals of most gamers. Books and notes strewn around her, and she was balancing a pencil on her lips instead of actually studying. No doubt, she was pondering when her next all-night caffeine-fueled gaming session would be instead of actually doing something productive with her life.
"May I ask you a question?" Haruka peered over the girl, her natural height becoming a tool, like if often did. "What exactly are you doing, and why do you think it's beneficial?"

Yuukyoku didn't look over at Haruka as she walked over and started to talk to her, although it seemed more like an Interogation than just a simple question, with weight and meaning behind what the Student Council President had asked. "I'm thinking," Yuukyoku said, managing to talk without her pencil falling off her face. "And thinking it always beneficial..."
She paused for a moment to contain her thoughts. "May I ask you a Question, O Great Super High School Level Student Council President?" She asked, looking up at the sky through the trees. "What, exactly, would you say a 'Talent' is?"

[attr="class","stotal"] [attr="class","sbox"] Haruka could feel the sarcasm dripping from this girl's voice. There was no respect, no slight showing of esteem for her senpai. Just this sort of...indifference.
Haruka didn't even have to think to answer. "Well, it's something that you excel at and the Hope's Peak Academy administration is recognizing by enrolling you in the academy. Of course, they tend to vary in practicality - for every politician or investigative journalist, there's a baker or mangaka or cosplayer or reject. If you're looking for the literal term, it's simply something you're good at, but I'm sure that's something you're aware of already, and, if not, I do pity you."

Yuukyoku didn't react to Haruka's tone, her own mental problem more important to what the other girl thought of her. "Obviously, but that's the problem," she said. "It's just so... Broad of a term. It can be a Skill. It can be a Status. It can be an Accomplishment... It can even just be random luck!" She exclaimed, thrusting one of her hands into the air for emphasis, causing her pencil to fall off her face. She didn't move to pick it up.
"So... What is a Talent? What is the one thing that ties all of these random elements together under one term? Why and How can we call all of these things Talents?"

Joka sighed, exhausted after his classes. He was hoping to go back to his room and catch some Z's, but fate had other plans for him. As he was walking back to the dorms he noticed some commotion going on between two students. It was probably something pretty serious, since one of the girls thrusted her fist in the air, completely ignoring the pencil falling to the floor. Whatever she was talking about, she must have been pretty passionate about it.
Joka skipped over to where the whole situation was happening. Hey, maybe some laughter could lighten the mood. Once Joka had forcibly forced himself into the situation he decided to make a quick greeting, even though he knew both girls. He took a bow and made his greeting. "Good afternoon Souzo-Chan, Koba-Chan. How you both doing this fine day?" Joka reached down and picked up the pencil that had fallen, and handed it to Yuukyoku. "Here ya go, looks like you dropped this."

Haruka sighed. "You're just nitpicking. May I ask you something?" Haruka began, not waiting to hear a confirmation. "Did you actually want to attend this academy? Your body posture, your tone, the very nature of your questions - it all suggests that you did not accept your enrollment with the gratitude that such a thing warrants. In addition, you'd rather spend your time lounging around and playing video games instead of studying or actually making use of your time here."
After she proposed her hypothesis, Haruka paused, just in time for the epitome of laziness and lack of tact to appear and make the situation that much more terrible.
The now student council-president grimaced. "Do not call me that, use my full name. And stand up straight, show respect for your superiors. Slouching will get you nowhere in life."

Yuukyoku grabbed the pencil from Joka and put it back on her lip. "Thank you," She said before turning back to Haruka.
"If I'm nitpicking it's because it's something worthy of being nitpicked," She said, still not getting up from her relaxed position. "Let me tell you something, Koba-chan. What looks to you like ungratefulness and laziness is me working, seriously. I make games, and while that can be fun it's a lot of work. Games emulate reality, and laying here under this tree I've got to wear The Hat of Nitpicking and break down this reality into rules and systems." She motioned around at the books laying around her. It was mostly Books about Hope's Peak itself. "I'm trying to make a Tabletop Game based off this place, because it's famous. There are people not as 'skilled' as any of us that would love to be here and would pay for the chance to pretend. But to do that, I have to know how Talents work."

"I find all of that fairly hard to believe. 'Games emulate reality'? They absolutely don't. In what reality do high-school girls have 140cm breasts and waists that are half that measurement, and are lascivious and sexually minded to an offensive precedent? In what reality do human beings have 30 pints of blood in their systems that's carbonated to the extent that it shoots out at the slightest prick? In what reality can complex tasks like repairing a car engine or healing a grievous wound be as simple as half-mindedly pressing a button or walking over an icon? Video games are nothing more than a pointless distraction for escapists, pedophiles, and idiots who want to ignore their actual responsibilities and obligations. You're just providing mindless entertainment for the mindless part of the population, with no deeper meaning hidden in your work or what you produce."
Haruka scoffed again. "You want to provide people the opportunity to be us? That is the laziest and most immature thing I've heard in my time here. Why not offer advice and encourage people to build up their own talents so they could be among the privileged? You're just letting the masses be complacent with what they've got instead of giving them the inspiration to aspire for better things. And you do realize what the majority of the people who play this 'tabletop game' will use it for, right? Playing attractive young boys and hypersexualized teenaged girls so they can act out what they imagine life is like in these walls - which is a hedonistic place of lounging about and participating in statutory rape between minors instead of the highest school in the land where you only succeed through hard work, studying, and striving towards greatness."

It finally dawned on Yuukyoku what she was dealing with here. The kind of person that Haruka was and why she had decided to come over to lecture her while she was working. And there she was, whipping herself up into a frenzy over games, the thing she had dedicated her life towards. It was something she had dealt with on and off her whole life: Self-important busy-bodies who thought that games were some immoral waste of time. Yuukyoku decided to make a game of this.
Still laying on her back, she started to reply, "You... You don't know how to have fun, do you?" She asked, looking at Haruka directly, her eyes filled with Determination. "They say that All Work and No Play makes Jack a dull boy. I said 'Games emulate reality' but you took that literally, as if I meant that 'All they do is perfectly copy reality.' That isn't what I meant. I've SEEN a game that tried to be that strict applying to reality and it's terrible. You have to solve a quadratic equation just to grapple someone. Games emulate Reality like how Art emulates Reality, Games being Art after all, taking from the real world that which the creator or player likes and adding a dash of fantasy. That's imagination. That's Entertainment. What you're doing there is even more nitpicky than what I was doing. You take outrageous outlying examples and act like they are the only part of games. You try to tear down someone people love, something that inspires them to greatness, to become a community, to enjoy life, and why? Because you've looked at it from afar and judged it as worthless. You think all that will come about from people playing the game I'm making is sexual fantasies? What keeps them from doing that without it? I'll tell you what: Absolutely Nothing. I can prove that to you if you really want me to. But what can my game do? It can help them dream. It can help inspire them to the greatness you say this place is suppose to as well."
"Maybe you should give it a try sometime? You know, playing a game, before you declare them all a 'Pervert's Escapist Fantasy.'"

Joka could only snicker at what Haruka was saying. She pretty much insulted every gamer in the whole world, like what's so wrong about games, they couldn't hurt anyone. "Jeez Haruka what kind of games have you seen, because the ones I play have none of that in it, though I really only play games of the fantasy genre, so it kind of makes sense. Also, I don't think its very kind of you to stereotype gamers while you're right in front of one. I'm pretty sure Yuukyoku isn't a pedophile or any of those other names you said. That would be like me calling every member of the student council bitchy, abusive, and power-hungry right in front of you." That last part was probably a mistake, but Joka was used to being yelled at so it didn't really bother him.
What really caught his attention was the mention of that Hope's Peak game. "You're really planning on making that? That actually sounds like a really good idea. And it'd be nice for the people who can't enter here."
But then, Haruka just had to chime in with her hate. She kept going on and on about how the game is bad because this reason and that reason. And about how instead we should be trying to help them breed talent so they can actually join. "Well Haruka, you can't really breed talent, it's kinda just something a person is born with."

"I've seen what video games do to my constituents. They turn normally studious and hard-working people into mindless slaves and idiots. I'm not going to even think about playing one of these 'games', and I don't want you to expose on and on about how great they are when the evidence is piled against your cause."
"The problem is that she's enabling those types of people by creating those types of entertainment. I'm sure that while she's perfectly fine with her sexual urges, the ones who don't have their feelings under control. By making these types of games, she's letting these deviants live out their fantasies, before they get bored with the game and attempt what they've played in real life. That's why there's so many reports of subway gropers in this very city - they've done what they've done in these sex fantasy games countless times before."
Haruka's working eye twitched, but she still maintained her relatively neutral, if slightly judging, face.
"Oshiro, please think for a second, think if you'd say that before the president of the Student Council, or in front of a teacher or even your parents, and then tell me if you'd really say that to me again to my face and completely mean it."
