fly me to the moon & LET ME LAY AMONG THE STARS Some days, Ayaka still couldn't believe that she was standing in the hallways of Hope's Peak. A school built for the hope of the nation... And she was one of them!? That was sometimes almost too hard to swallow, but wherever she looked, nothing suggested that this was just another dream she'd fabricated. The people she met in class, her kind, new teachers... It would have almost been a pity if they really had been a dream. Still a little dazed that she of all people had been invited to attend, Ayaka wandered the halls stuck in her own little cloud, up until she walked straight into someone and sent the loose manuscripts she'd been carrying in her arms flying through the air like scattered feathers in the wind. Contrary to some girls' beliefs, this was not going to be the start of a new love. More like the start to an awkward run-in. "S-sorry!" she squeaked in a panic, already trying to gather her papers as quickly as possible so she could just run away from her embarrassment. This didn't really work out for her as she tried executing a couple of frantic bows and picking up papers at the same time, almost tripping as she hastily stumbled backwards to put some space between herself and the unfortunate other student. "I- I guess I was daydreaming again, and..." Oh wait, bad manners! Gotta make sure the other person was okay first! "I mean, um, are you all right?"[attr="class","lyrics"]LET ME SEE WHAT SPRING IS LIKE ON JUPITER AND MARS [newclass=.lyrics]font:9px calibri;color:#997766;text-align:center;margin-bottom:-20px;letter-spacing:3px;[/newclass] [newclass=.notes]font:9px calibri;color:#4d4b4a;height:0px;text-align:center;overflow:hidden;-webkit-transition: all 1s ease; -moz-transition: all 1s ease; -o-transition: all 1s ease;[/newclass] [newclass=.lyrics:hover .notes]height:15px;-webkit-transition: all 1s ease; -moz-transition: all 1s ease; -o-transition: all 1s ease;[/newclass]

Dark, baggy lines were under his eyes as he stared out a window, into the campus. He had to squint a little as the bright golden sun flowed into the hallway. Sighing, started walking down the hall again, trying to relax a little. It was days like these when he would forget to eat, sleep, or even take a shower.
Yawning, Naoya's mind wandered everywhere as he put one foot in front of the other. Being accepted to this school was something important to many people, but to him, it was just something else in his life. It was on days like this, when his work shirt was stained with paint, and his hair was ruffled, that the painter wanted nothing more than to make something beautiful, regardless of the stress it caused to achieve that.
Walking down the hall to the art room, Naoya found himself caught in a yawn as he rounded a corner, straight into a nervous looking girl. He didn't stumble too much, but he saw many detailed pieces of paper fly into the air and float to the ground. The girl in front of him sure did seem anxious as she stood back.
Simply nodding at her question, he kneeled down and carefully picked up the papers, trying to keep them organized. His eyes caught the well detailed panels. Even if he wasn't a fan of the art style, these weren't bad at all. Standing up, he carefully hand out his hands that now held a pile of manuscripts.
"It's fine, just try and watch where you're going." He looked down at the papers one last time, thinking that maybe saying something that was pretty uncalled for when it came to a neurotic girl like this. Looking up again, he spoke. "You didn't get hurt, did you?"

fly me to the moon & LET ME LAY AMONG THE STARS Thank goodness, this person had been kind enough not to yell at her, and he had even helped her gather up her papers! Glad that she hadn't caused too much harm, Ayaka brightened into a smile, dipping into a bouncy bow and thanking the taller student warmly for his efforts. "Thank you. But ah, I'm fine, I'm used to this kind of thing. It's nice of you to worry though."Ending on a sheepish note, Ayaka gathered the papers back in her arms, surreptitiously shuffling a blank sheet to the top of the stack so that the other teen couldn't see what else was drawn on them. Her artwork and stories might've been praised by many but... She still couldn't help but feel a little self-conscious about what she drew. It would be a long while until she reached the skills of her favorite manga artists. It was only then that Ayaka noticed the boy's bedraggled appearance and paint-splattered clothes. ...Actually, now that she thought about it, didn't he seem kind of familiar? From the looks of it, he must be an artist of some sort; she herself had emerged from from her work station just as dirty and tired-looking before, but that was mostly because she had deadlines to meet. But hey, that meant it was possible that he was in one of her classes, if they studied in the same area! "Um... If you don't mind me asking... Are you an art student by any chance?" Canting her head to the side, Ayaka stared curiously up at the solemn-looking brunet. Yeesh, she wasn't going to spout some cliche shoujo line like "I feel like I've met you before" or something. That was just plain embarrassing, not to mention this was real life. Of course she was bound to have seen him around school somewhere; the academy wasn't that big. Raising an eyebrow, Naoya looked down at his shirt. It was almost some sort of child art piece of it's own at this point. Looking back at the shorter girl, he nodded lightly. Judging by what was on those papers that had just been on the ground and a few stains on her shirt, he guessed she may be some sort of mangaka. Well, while he wasn't really a big fan of manga or anime, the student cracked a subtle smile for a second, surprised to have met another artist.
After a moment, he took a step back, giving her some more room in the hallway. It would have been bad if she dropped what she was holding again. He quietly cleared his throat a little, internally cursing himself for not getting some water earlier. "Yeah, I am. I was just taking a break for a few minutes." He looked down again, and tried to straighten his shirt. "Sorry for my.. untidy look. It's been a bit of a long day." Normally, Naoya wasn't very talkative most of the time, but he felt the need to explain his disheveled appearance.
After at least making sure the messy shirt was on straight, he bowed slightly. "My name is Naoya Akamaru.. I'm the Ultimate Artist." That was it. No 'nice to meet you' or anything. He just simply thought he might as well introduce himself considering they've both been standing in the hallway for a while now.
It wasn't that he disliked her, or anything. The artist just was never someone to be very social to people he just happened to bump into. Though, he did have some respect for her already considering she was a fellow artist, and seemed nice enough to talk to.

fly me to the moon & LET ME LAY AMONG THE STARS Perhaps most people wouldn't have spotted the mere twitch of a smile that had flicked across Akamaru's face, but Ayaka wasn't most people, or so she sometimes liked to think. Spotting these kinds of little things were her specialty, and she tried hard to keep from giving herself away with a delighted smile of her own to have managed to tease that smile out of him. Needless to say, she failed, but she passed it off and simply continued the conversation. She liked this Akamaru Naoya; in the few minutes that she'd known him, he had already proven himself to be kind (which wasn't something she could say about everybody), if not a little taciturn, but that was fine. Ayaka wouldn't be fazed by something like that. She'd talk enough for both of them until he was comfortable enough around her. That was what making friends was all about, wasn't it? "Oh, no don't worry about it!" she laughed, waving a hand, because it wasn't like she couldn't understand his sentiment. Returning to the general society and all the judging and constructs that came with it after a long session with only your art for company was... Kind of weird and not always pleasant if you still had the energy to care, but at that point, most artists probably didn't. "I often emerge from my lair the same way," she went on with a chuckle, before ducking into another bow once the other teen had introduced himself. "Ayaka Umino! Pleasure to meet you!" She actually didn't really like hearing the titles thrown out or the way they seemed to quantify their skills, so she didn't offer hers. She was just Ayaka, not "the Ultimate Mangaka" or whatever stuffy name Hope's Peak could label her, and she didn't ever want to be identified by just her title. But um... They really were kind of just standing in the hallway, and while there wasn't anything wrong with that—hallways made for surprisingly good hangout spots—Akamaru was looking pretty exhausted. "Um... Are you all right though?" Okay, so she was treading into personal territory with the next question, but she felt it was a justifiable concern. "When was the last time you ate and actually slept?" Oh, heavens, what if he needed to be somewhere, and she was stalling him!? "I, ah, I can catch you later if you um, have somewhere you need to be though." Hands tightening nervously on the papers folded to her chest before catching herself, the girl took a couple steps back, just in case the other artist needed to sweep past her and get to wherever it was he was going. She wouldn't want to keep him from anything. It had seemed that any discomfort in the air from their accident a few minutes ago drifted away as the conversation went on. He listened intently to what she was saying, watched her actions and mannerisms, noticing that his classmate was at the very least becoming more comfortable around him. In fact, a bright smile had appeared in place of the nervous and apologetic looks she was giving him earlier. A bit of relief washed over him, thankful that this girl wasn't going to be constantly nervous around him.
As Naoya tried to sort out his borderline disastrous appearance, he payed attention to the girl's dialog. Even if he didn't look very interested, the artist was happy to learn even a little more about her. As she introduced herself, and continued to chatter on, the splotchy student felt confident that she was some sort of mangaka, judging by a few faint ink stains on her clothes. It was fairly easy for two artist to spot each other, even though Ayaka hadn't stated her talent. Nodding at her introduction, he couldn't help but feel like he's heard her name before. Ayaka Umino. It was more than likely that he would have heard it at some point while coming to this school, but he doesn't think he's met her before.
Clearing his dry throat again, the artist spoke. "It's a pleasure to meet you too, Umino." She was certainty polite. More than most people he's come across in.. well, a while. Finally, his classmate raised her question. A surprised look broke out on his face as she asked if he was alright. Either she was just really good at reading people, or he was in a bad shape. The latter wouldn't really surprise him. When the blue-haired boy set his mind to a project, he'd often forget basic necessities. It's made him seriously sick more than once.
After getting over his initial shock from her question, he answered swiftly, feeling almost embarrassed by the subject. "Yes, I'll be fine. Like I said, it's been a busy day." While most people may have found it nice to have been shown this kind of concern, he was taken aback. This girl had just met him, and she was already concerned about his health? As she posed her next question, he took a moment to think about what to say. "Well, I was thinking of getting something to drink and eat right now.. As for sleep, I'm used to staying up for.. a while." Naoya saw it as almost a bit shameful that he'd let himself get so deprived in a day, but when it came down to working on something, all other concerns went out a window. They simply would become irrelevant. The only reason he had even taken a break in the first place was because he had at least gotten to a good point to stop.
Shaking his head at Ayaka's final question, he tried to reassure her. "No. I'm not in a hurry right now. It's fine.." His tone was a bit softer due to the previous inquiries. None of those concerns were even on his mind until she brought them up. Suddenly, he could feel how hungry he was, how heavy his eyes had become. Considering he was already on a break, the tall student figured he could spare a few hours to reinvigorate himself.

fly me to the moon & LET ME LAY AMONG THE STARS Oh... Riding the overwhelming sense of relief she felt after she had been told she wasn't getting in his way in a pause of stunned but grateful silence, Ayaka kicked herself back into the present, taking the other teen's efforts to make himself more presentable in a stride. Nothing to be ashamed about! In fact, it was amazing that he even had the energy to care about such a triviality. Who cared about how grimy they looked when they were breathing life into something beautiful? "Hmmm," she hummed to herself thoughtfully now that she had relaxed again, mentally reviewing her schedule. It didn't seem like she had anything planned for the next few hours either, so she was free to tag along to the cafeteria. ...If Akamaru even made it to the cafeteria. Just how long had the other student gone without sleep? Wiping the worried frown that had emerged off her face, she shook that thought out of her head. First food. Then sleep. Didn't matter what Akamaru had in plan; continuing in this condition was... really not good. What if he got sick or something? "How about we go to the cafeteria together?" she suggested amiably, "I wouldn't mind having a bite to eat myself." Plus, that way, she could make sure the taller student was actually ingesting something nutritious... Wait no, she wasn't a mother hen, promise. She was just really worried, and as a fellow art student, it was almost her duty to ensure her classmate didn't send himself to the hospital by not eating or sleeping properly. Rambling on to fill in the silence that stretched between them, Ayaka took a step closer to the male to fill in the awkward gap she'd created by stepping back before, already starting to turn in the direction of the cafeteria. "Have you tried the King Penguin Sandwich yet? They're so good, and so cute too! There's a different penguin face drawn onto each top bun, and if you collect enough penguin stickers, they'll even give you one for free..." Not to mention it had some salad and a few slices of tomato. Nope, not a mother hen, not at all. This was fine though, wasn't it? She wasn't overstepping her bounds or anything, was she? It just felt kind of natural to assume that Akamaru would follow her, even if they'd only known each other for a short while. ...He hadn't even said yes. ...And she still needed to put her manuscripts away. Ahhh whatever, food was all the excuse she needed. After a long moment of silence, a chuckle escaped the painter. He stifled it pretty quickly, before looking away for a moment, thinking. Ayaka had shown a lot of concern for him without a second thought, and she had hardly even met him yet. Whether that said more about her naivety or his cynicism, he didn't know. The man simply stood there for a moment, before nodding lightly. "Okay.. lead the way, Umino." He tried to give a weary smile, though the painter wasn't really the smiling type to begin with, though this was a sort of special case. Even if he wasn't really a people person, Naoya did find some comfort with this girl. Maybe it was just her personality; she was pretty harmless. Though, his look grew solemn for a split second, as the girl before him reminded him of someone close to him. Shaking off the feeling, the tall student started walking, listening to her suggestions. At least she seemed excited. He shook his head at her question. "I haven't really tried much of the school's food. The cafeteria's filled to the brim with people a lot of the time, so.. I normally just go out to town and get something." Their footsteps echoed throughout the hall. Two artist, on the way to get some lunch. Or dinner. Whatever it was time for. The walk wasn't too bad, though his legs did ache a little from not getting all that much use that day. And the artist couldn't help but beat himself up internally for his, quite frankly, sloppy appearance, but he tried to ignore it, just trying to have a good time. Which, if the shorter student kept talking like this, wouldn't be a challenge. Ayaka Umino

fly me to the moon & LET ME LAY AMONG THE STARS She'd heard that! That chuckle! A smile split Ayaka's face, as if it hadn't been doing that already. You... you finally laughed! she wanted to shout with delight, but doing such a thing would no doubt shut him down, and that was seriously the last thing she wanted to happen. But it meant!! They could be friends! And she was so happy to know that there was still something in him that wasn't so guarded and wary and could also be happy and light. She wanted to chase that sad look she'd seen in his eyes for a split-second away. "You haven't!?" she gasped, genuinely surprised by his admission. "The food there is really good, don't be a stranger!" Hope's Peak might've been filled with people of all different kinds, but she was sure Akamaru could find somewhere to fit in if he tried. There were lots of people more than happy to welcome others into their groups; that was a lesson she'd learned herself during her stay. "Ah, but... You could always just buy lunch and eat it elsewhere? I always take mine to the rooftop. You should come eat with me one day!" Maybe they could be lunch buddies!? Ayaka's own friends had things to do at lunch more often than not, so she always drifted up there to eat. It wasn't as crowded up there, and it was an open space, so perhaps he wouldn't dislike it there? Ayaka shook her head a little. "In that case, however, next time you can take me out somewhere to dinner in town instead." Yeah, that would be fun, wouldn't it? And there we go, look at that, it was the cafeteria! Good thing the cafeteria ladies were still here. Though there was probably also a culinary student still around somewhere to help them even if they weren't. "Hello, ma'am! I'd like a King Penguin sandwich! Um, my friend here would like..." Here she turned to Akamaru expectantly, wondering just what he'd order. In actuality, he didn't have to order the same thing she did; the menu was right up above them, and there were lots of tasty things to try. They both made there way into the cafeteria, the smell of food still cooking and the sounds of a few people still talking as they enjoyed their late meals. Luckily, the crowds had died down quite a bit by that point, so Naoya didn't feel like suffocated by a bunch of loud teenagers. Resting his left hand in his pocket, the student stepped forward, looking up at the menu. It certainly wasn't any ordinary school menu, luckily. After she spoke, he looked over at the mangaka, noticing she still had a look of joy on her face. She had been grinning like a child in a candy store the entire walk to the cafeteria, even though he had hardly really talked. After placing her order, his classmate looked at him, waiting for him, obviously. Having already read over the menu, he realised that he didn't really care all to much we he got. After such a long day, all he wanted at this point was some food. "Same as her, Kings Penguin sandwich, please." Well, why not. Ayaka seemed to hold the food in high regards. Still, he wouldn't be ecstatic if this sandwich's only selling point was a drawing of a penguin, artist or not. After their orders had been placed, he stood there, taking a breath. It had been such a long day for the painter, filling in commissions. Still, he was grateful for the unexpected company. After they got their food, he motioned his head towards a nearby table for them to sit at. Unwrapping the food, he took a bite, his eyes gazing at the manuscripts that Ayaka had set down on the table. Silently thinking to himself, wondering what kind of person Ayaka was outside of a situation like this, he raised his head, meeting her own gaze. "So.. I assume you've been enjoying your time at this school?" Sure, the girl seemed nervous earlier, he thought to himself. However, she really did have a carefree aura about her. He admired that, yet it still pained him a little with memories. He wondered if his emotional mask held up. "Did anything specific make you want to attend the academy?" The student hoped this line of questioning didn't come off wrong. He was just curious. Ayaka Umino

fly me to the moon & LET ME LAY AMONG THE STARS Ah, finally! Food, food~ Cheeriness subduing as she settled herself down to eat, Ayaka hummed to herself and carefully setting the manuscripts she'd brought with her onto a clean patch of table. She'd taken a seat across from Akamaru, and after her usual ritual—hands clapped together, a word of gratitude for the food she was eating—she unwrapped her own sandwich and bit down. Mmm, she'd never get tired of the taste. Ayaka had honestly expected a quiet meal. Akamaru didn't seem like someone who talked much, and she was glad that he'd already said as many words as he had to her. It was eating time though, some people actually liked to eat in peace, and she'd pegged the other student as someone who'd fall into that category. So it came as a bit of a surprise that he'd speak up, but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless. She swallowed her mouthful. "Yeah," she agreed quietly, "I am. It's so fun, and I'm so happy. There are so many nice people I never thought I'd meet and so many new things I never thought I could try..." Eyes lowered to the table, where she was resting her hands, and her eyes turned inwards, willing the trembling uncertainty inside her to be still. She was good enough as herself. She was good enough. "I wanted to..." How did you put something like this into words? Back at home, Sorata had simply understood without her having to tell him, had understood when he'd seen the wobbly but nonetheless determined strength that he'd breathed into her eyes. "I came because I wanted to chase after my own sky," she settled on at last, hushed pride stirring in her chest as she said this aloud. Yeah, perhaps it sounded a little cliche, but it was also true. She'd wanted to find her own horizon and point her feet at it. "What brings you, though, Akamaru-san? Only good things, I hope?" It was only fair to return the question; it wasn't like she wasn't curious either. Returning to her meal, she would listen to anything he had to say. Hopefully the question wasn't too personal.
