Stepping hesitantly onto the deck at sunrise on Day 1 of murderhell, he blinked, both at the already-harsh sunlight, and the fact that the deck wasn't already a bloodbath. Huh. He'd almost expected a corpse, but it seemed these other people had more control of themselves than some let on.
Rather than a corpse, however, he saw that one black-haired kid who let loose the sail right before... ugh.
Keeping unpleasant thoughts locked away in a corner of his mind, he thought back to before everything got crazy. He'd introduced himself as an heir.
That means he had money.
Alito didn't know what good money would do, exactly. Maybe he could bribe the creepy robot bear, or something. Still, he reasoned that it'd be more useful in his hands than in the pockets of that guy, who seemed a bit too dull to even comprehend death.
He suspected that this would be the easiest target he'd get on this ship of strangely talented kids. So, it was time to move.
"Hey, you. Uhh... Asher, right? Yeah, you're Asher." He approached the black-haired individual slowly and nonthreateningly.

Asher had a hard time sleeping in general. He usually spent most of his nights awake, in his bed or at a computer playing games. But seeing as apparently he brought all of his other stuff except his laptop and his pictures of his family, he mostly just stared at the ceiling that first night wondering if the girl who fell asleep on deck would wake up today. Then he could make sure she wouldn’t make the others sad again. He spent most of the night simply thinking about the bear and how they weren’t going to have food. He was used to having all the food in the world, any time he wanted it, so this was going to be hard for him and he knew it. But it wasn’t like the bear would just let them all die. Someone just had to kill someone else. But that was stupid to think about. No one would do that, Asher assured himself, so that meant they were going to be hungry for a while. He didn’t understand what the big deal was, killing someone, but then again, Asher didn’t quite understand death as most people did. It didn’t help that he was a shelter child, along with several other factors that led him to this naivety in even simple matters of life. Finally, Asher decided that he wouldn’t get any sleep tonight either and slowly made his way out of his room. It was still technically nighttime but it wasn’t like the rule said they couldn’t go out at night. Just to exercise caution, or something like that. Asher made his way to the deck, and leaned over one of the railings looking out into the ocean. He sighed, as he thought about how he would make people happy, despite all the things they were hearing and how they were reacting to the bear. He tried jokes once, but he wasn’t really good at them. He just… hated when people were upset. Asher wanted to make everyone happy. Time slowly passed, and soon the sun was starting to rise, but Asher didn’t really notice. He was mostly just staring off into space, and thinking the whole time. Well, it wasn’t like he was going to get any sleep anyways. However, soon he heard his name being spoken as one of them approached him. Asher quickly turned around to face his fellow shipmate, plastering on the biggest smile he could muster. “Yeah, I’m Asher!” Asher offered his hand. “You’re Alito right? Are you having fun here, on the ship? Well, other than not having food.” He decided not to mention the sleeping girl yesterday, thinking that reminding Alito of her would make him upset. The outstretched hand, the sudden open-ness, took Alito by surprise. He hesitated for a moment, before tentatively shaking Asher's hand. "Yeah, I'm Alito. And dunno if fun would be the word for it..."
He let out a sigh. This guy was something else. He didn't seem even the slightest bit fearful or stressed, despite everything. Alito would almost feel bad for stealing from him.
Almost.
Leaning heavily against the railing not far from Asher, he stared off at the horizon. "... I hate being cooped up. Like, boats are okay, I guess, but... This is just way too far. It's a prison." He kicked the railing, moreso to make a point than to vent frustrations. "So, Asher. Who do you think's gonna snap first?"

Asher never liked when people were not happy. And Alito didn’t seem happy. Asher wanted to try to make everyone as happy as possible. And yet Alito felt like he was trapped on this ship. Like it was a prison. Maybe he was more of those types who liked to run around everywhere. Asher had been on boats before, but usually they were like his father’s yacht or something like that.
No, he was determined to cheer up Alito. He would make it his mission. But how would he cheer up Alito? All his previous efforts to cheer up people on the ship didn’t work, even though most people would be happy after he got done laughing and making a fool of himself. Everyone seemed to just look at him more worriedly than before. As if they were worried he would kill someone. He wasn’t stupid. And if anyone he would kill the sleeping girl. Then all he had to do was think about them dead and then they would die, because that was the only way people could die. But he liked everyone here. He didn’t want anyone to die. Because while he didn’t understand death like everyone else did, he did know what death was, just not how it actually happened or how to recognize it.
At least he got the blood off his pants from that first day when he tried to wake up the sleeping girl. “Well, it’s only bad if you let it be bad. I mean, everyone here is really nice and stuff.” Even the mean ones Asher pretended were nice, because otherwise he would get sad because of their meanness. “I don’t think anyone will snap. I think that we’ll find food first and then we’ll all live happily ever after. Because that’s how things end. Happy.” Asher shone a huge grin towards Alito, the naivety showing through of his rose colored view of the world.

Was this guy for real? Did he really think that? It was hard to tell if this guy was some kind of comedian, or just really, really optimistic. About everything ever.
"... Uh, yeah... Sure. Maybe we'll all be okay." And maybe pigs would fly. "Hey, listen. Do you think there's any vending machines or anything hidden on this ship? If there is, I might be able to find one." He grinned at Asher, face the picture of innocent intentions. "I don't have any money, though, and if I find it, someone might break into it first... Could I have your wallet, maybe? I'll buy the stuff out of it and share with everyone!"

Asher’s face immediately lit up when Alito said that he might be able to find a vending machine. If he could grin any wider, he would have just now. It was a small price to pay if it meant they could get food. And then he would be a hero!
Asher pulled out his wallet quickly and handed it over to Alito. “Yes! Do it. Everyone should be able to eat. I hope there’s enough in there.” Asher looked at the wallet he was handing over which contained a picture of his family and the equivalent of a couple hundred dollars. Usually Asher would carry around more, because he could and if he got robbed it really wasn’t a big deal. He would probably be more likely to accidently catch it on fire or something. “Oh I really hope you can find a vending machine. If you do, could you make sure to get me some chips. I love chips. Chips on ships. That sounds awesome.”

"Heh, right... Ship chips. I promise, Asher. I really do." Alito took the wallet gingerly and slipped it into his pocket, grinning kindly at Asher. "If I find a vending machine, we'll all be okay. And we'll both be heroes."
Heroes?
Yeah right.
