I WILL GRAB MY FREEDOM WITH MY OWN HANDS. With the bear finally gone and the rest of the lot either loitering around or heading off to explore their new environment, Aniki finally dropped his eyes to the handbook in his hands, joining the rest of the scattering students to move off and find a shady patch of wall to commandeer and take stock of his situation. He ended up somewhere near the door to the captain's quarters, taking advantage of the overhanging roof the deck's second level formed and the shade it offered beneath it. So there was no food on the ship. At least not until someone turned to murder, but then what? Was the food just going to be delivered to them? Or was the food already somewhere on this floating hellhole but just inaccessible at the moment? It was most likely the latter, but regardless, Aniki decided he would simply wait out the killer. Unlike most of the other kids, he'd been starved before; he could handle a few days without food. Besides, they had water. A whole ocean of it. Get rid of the salt and impurities, and you had a way to at least hydrate yourself. Murder was pointless and actually kind of a chore if he could create a way to hold out until the weaker students cracked under the pressure of fatigue and oh, they would; they lived the good lives, the normal lives, there was little chance that they had had the chance to build up the mental strength required to function without food. It was all the better for Aniki anyway, since there was no way he was going to test the unlisted consequences of Rule 7 himself. He wasn't that brash, thank you very much. So now, he'd just have to bide his time and wait. Wait and do his best to survive under the given circumstances. Currently, he didn't owe any obligations to anyone, so preserving his own life was the priority. So long as no one came for his life or didn't take their sweet time killing each other off, he didn't give a damn about what the rest of the kids were up to because he sure as hell wasn't going to make the first kill. With that decision made, Aniki remained leaning against the ship wall, content to just enjoy the shade—staying out in the sun would dehydrate him sooner but he didn't want to go down below yet either—and the foreign sea breeze. He kept his eyes open and watched as other students came and went from the deck, relaxing as he watched the others come and go without paying much attention to him. fear is not an option luck is not a factor,
Ryuu had explored the ship as well as everyone else, because while saving energy would be important if there truly was no food, it wasn’t like they would just blindly follow him. No, they would have to see that he was trying, that he truly wanted to help everyone out (well, no everyone, but nine people was more than half), that he was willing to do things himself as well. It was something his father had taught him. However, Ryuu hadn’t explored far, knowing that others would go deeper and later they would report their findings. Then Ryuu could come up with a plan of how to get out of here, how to get the nine out. He just needed more information to be able to set anything in stone.
And so, after examining the storage room and finding various different items one could kill another with, including poison, rope, and various weapons, Ryuu found himself on the upper level of the deck, leaning against one of the poles in the coolest place on the deck, and one of the best places to look out at the rest of the deck, other than the crow’s nest that would take way too much energy to climb all the way up to. For just a simple childish moment, Ryuu let himself think that he was a pirate captain and they were sailing the high seas looking for the fountain of youth or some sort of treasure. Then he snapped back to reality cursing himself for such childish thoughts and wasting time that could be used to construct a way out. If they all died, it would be because of that moment when he wasted his time. Even a split second could mean life or death. He couldn’t allow himself to get distracted.
He saw N1 near the Captain’s Chambers, though he was obviously not stupid enough to try to go inside after the display not long ago when Teruru died. The body seemed to have been moved, and the blood on the deck was no longer there. It was as if Teruru never died, yet they all knew what had happened (except maybe Asher, he didn’t seem to understand, and if Ryuu allowed his emotions any leeway, then he would feel bad for the guy). Ryuu stood and slowly made his way towards N1. As a non-expendable, he needed N1 to do as he said, and follow his orders. And Ryuu had a feeling that N1 was suspicious of him because of his treatment towards N9, and how N9 seemed to have known his name despite them not meeting before. He took up a position next to N1, and remained silent for a few moments. Without even looking towards his shipmate, he spoke.
“Do you think we can get off of this ship?”

I WILL GRAB MY FREEDOM WITH MY OWN HANDS. Ah, so it was the Messiah. The one who would supposedly free them from this farce of a Noah's ark. Aniki watched the other teen's slow approach with wary red eyes, already bidding his peaceful afternoon farewell. Unless the two decided to just spend the rest of the day watching clouds and chatting about other inanities, then the older teen doubted that he would have a moment to fully relax again. Once he had drawn level, said brunet chose a more tactful route, avoiding the two's previous animosity in favor of something maybe a little more innocuous. Aniki knew he would have to be careful with this line of questioning—as innocent as the question might seem, it was still asking for his opinion, still probing at his ideals and values. He was, ultimately, trying to figure out what sort of person Aniki was, and the reject wasn't about to give an inch without a good reason to do so. Unabashedly executing a quick up-down of the other boy's figure—immaculate uniform (What sort of kid actually wanted to wear a fucking tie? Aniki couldn't wear one without comparing it to a noose around his neck.), no medals or pins or insignias to determine rank or company, brittle gray-green eyes, basically not much different from when Aniki had first laid eyes on Ryuu—the older teen shrugged, though he doubted his bespectacled companion would see it considering he was staring anywhere but at Aniki. "Even if we did," the reject replied evenly after his own drawn out pause, "where would we go?" Sure, he was sidestepping Ryuu's question (and he had every intention of doing so), but it was still a valid concern. TAGGED @ryuu | NOTES dun dun duuun |

He knew the SHSL Reject was one who was most likely to fall to despair, though Ryuu didn’t discount him because of it. As long as he was willing to do what he said in order to survive, they wouldn’t have a problem. He did feel that N1 didn’t believe that he could do what he said, even though strategically, keeping hope for even the doomed ones was a very important strategy, because if one did not believe they could get out of this situation, they wouldn’t. Hope was a powerful tool when crafting a strategy, but N3 was right to a degree, as one could never rely upon it. It was almost as bad as relying on luck. Almost. Definitely not as bad, but just as stupid. Just because one may believe that something will happen, didn’t mean they couldn’t just stop and it would happen, they would have to make it happen. And Ryuu planned to make that absolutely clear later.
Ryuu did, however, want to understand where N3 was, and therefore how he could use N3 to get them all out, including N3 himself. He didn’t want to fight, he didn’t want to anger him, and he needed to know what skills he had to put him to use. What his morals were, how far he would be willing to go to get off the ship. Those were what he was looking for, probing N3 for. He needed to find something to use to prove his non-expendability. Everyone here had a talent, well besides N10, and each of them could be useful in their own way, even if some of them he was willing to have them do something that would end up killing them, and others he wasn’t willing to send straight to their death.
“Back to my family.” He remembered his father telling him a war was coming, and that he needed to be on the top of his game for it, and that’s why he went to Hope’s Peak, so he could hone his skills and truly be worthy of his title, and be ready for what was coming. He didn’t know what, he wasn’t an analyzer or seer or anything like that. He was only a strategist and he had to wait until the war came in order to stop it. Maybe this ship was the first strike by the enemy. Kidnapping the hopes for the future, and making them kill one another. It was only a matter of time before his dad found them and would save them, but he wouldn’t depend on that, no, he would find a way off regardless. "If they're alive. And if not, I would just go back to what I always did. What would do?"

I WILL GRAB MY FREEDOM WITH MY OWN HANDS. ...What the hell? Ryuu's reply was nothing short of surprising, because that had definitely not been what Aniki had meant by his question. The reject had asked what would happen after they got off the ship. As in, how were they going to survive in an endless blue? The biggest question now, however, was: how'd this turn into some sort of depressing heart-to-heart kind of thing? As it was, staying on the ship was probably the safest option at the moment. At least they'd have the chance to get food and the like. If they left the ship without any resources... Who knew how long they'd last, drifting out on open sea? Either route seemed like a dead end, so unless the strategist was thinking far ahead enough to factor that into whatever shitty escape plan he was no doubt cooking up, then Aniki would never follow him. But what was this, some sort of "gotta trust a little to get some trust back" session or something? The pale-haired teen hadn't expected for the strategist to be so open—if not a little vague—about his plans for a hypothetical future. Then again, his answer probably wasn't very different from most other kids' so Aniki didn't put too much value into it. Shrugging, the reject allowed, "Same I guess. Minus the family part." Whatever, Aniki had never claimed to be a good conversationalist. Not like he knew where his parents even were now anyway; he'd cut ties with them the moment he'd decided to shoulder That Burden, refusing to see them even when they initially attempted to contact him. "I'll just crawl back to whatever hellhole I came from." Only a dog's life awaited Aniki if he managed to return to civilization, but it didn't matter. That was the way his life had always been; he took whatever came his way and dealt with it, always scraping by somehow. TAGGED @ryuu | NOTES dun dun duuun |

fear is not an option luck is not a factor,
Ryuu needed to know who N1 was, and how to use him, which meant knowing where the Reject came from. So of course he would turn that question into an emotional response. He couldn’t know N1 when it came to how he planned, and things such as that. If they managed to get off the ship, Ryuu had plans to find their way back to land, despite the vastness of the ocean. But answering with that would not have gotten him the information he wanted from N1. He rather turn the question on N1 and see how it responded.
He only half-lied with his answer. He would avoid his family, especially if they saw what was happening on this ship. He would focus his efforts on being a strategist for the government, and trying to stop whatever the hell happened from happening again, and he would live the same life he always had, minus his family. His family would just get in the way. He couldn’t get emotionally attached to anyone anymore, because then he would have to make decisions that tore him up. He needed to be able to put his father into the expendable pile if the need arose, but on this ship he could already feel his emotions latching onto a couple of people, as if he knew them already, despite not remembering anything about them. No, he couldn’t let it happen. He had to remain emotionally distant from everyone.
His eyes watched the sky above them, the clouds slowly drifting away as the ship sailed on, as a slight breeze passing by. “You won’t have to if you don’t want. I can get you whatever life you want off of this ship.” This way, he could try to establish loyalty and a reason for N1 to not kill him. Sure, after they were off the ship, Ryuu would probably not live up to his word, though there was a chance he would. It depended on the conditions on land. If they were still relatively normal, like the last he remembered, then he could do it, Ryuu was sure. “Within reason of course.” It wouldn’t be smart of him to promise something he couldn’t actually end up doing. “My father is a wealthy man, my reputation, my family’s reputation would make it so I could give you any life you wanted.” Ryuu wasn’t an analyzer, he couldn’t tell what would actually work on a person, but he normally was alright with the whole ‘manipulating someone into doing what he wanted’ thing. If, of course, his emotions didn’t get in the way. Pesky, pesky things, emotions were, always getting in his way of distance.

I WILL GRAB MY FREEDOM WITH MY OWN HANDS. There was a long silence as Aniki stared at Ryuu, expression unreadable so as to hide the incredulous, pitying rage starting to simmer in his gut. Who was this child who had the gall to think he could play God and toy around with his life so easily like this? Aniki would rather die before he accepted that sort of worthless offer. Messiah indeed, but if he resorted to methods like this, then the brunet would never be able to truly save anyone. He was a hero, or would be one, yes, but once people realized the true reasons behind his actions, they would turn against him, as the trust they had held was one-sided. The nineteen-year old inwardly scoffed. What a martyr. "Messiah..." Aniki growled lowly, eyes narrowing into a glare. So that's what Ryuu had been trying to play at. Regardless of what the younger male wanted in exchange, the strategist was a fool to think that Aniki would toss aside his skewed sense of pride and accept this sort of offer. Humiliation might've been something the reject had endured, some voluntarily and others not, but if it was like this... Ryuu was not someone Aniki would trust his life with, because the strategist... He was the lowest of the low. "There isn't anything you could offer me that I would want. Now stop fucking around; what do you want from me?" Bastard had better watch his step. If he spouted anymore of this bullshit about a better life or whatnot, then Aniki was just going to up and leave because he would never bow to a stupid rich kid whether said rich kid had the group's best interests or not.
